International summer school – “Modern and Classical Studies of Korea in Saint Petersburg University”

Faculty of Political Science and International Studies UW would like to inform about call for students from Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, who would like to participate in International Summer School in Saint Petersburg.

International summer school

“Modern and Classical Studies of Korea in Saint Petersburg University”

Saint Petersburg University announces an International summer school “Modern and Classical Studies of Korea in Saint Petersburg University”.

All students (of BA, MA or PhD levels) are invited for participation. The school is being organized on the basis of the Faculty of Asian and African Studies, the Faculty of Sociology and the Faculty of International Relations with the support of the Academy of Korean Studies (the project “Enlargement of Korean Studies Disciplinary Field at St. Petersburg University and Development of Northern and Eastern European Korean Studies Network”).

Dates: August 27-31, 2018.

Location: Saint Petersburg University, Faculty of Sociology (St. Petersburg, Smolny St, 1/3, entrance 9).

Summer school participants: We are inviting students majoring in Korean Studies or learning Korea in partner Universities of Saint Petersburg University (SPbU) from the following universities:

  • The University of Stockholm
  • The University of Turku
  • The University of Warsaw (IIR, Faculty of Political Science and International Studies)
  • The University of Oslo
  • Saint Petersburg University

 

The number of students from partner universities whose participation is supported by the SPbU is limited within 5 people from each university.

Otherwise we are welcoming all students and researchers interested in participation, who are able to cover their travel and accommodation costs at their own expenses.

Working Language: English

Goals: to deliver to international students a large scale of Korea-related knowledge comprising both 120 years of Korean Studies tradition and the latest achievements in studying Korea and to provide communication between students learning Korea.

The Summer School participants will have an opportunity to get acquainted with collections of antiquarian Korean books and manuscripts in museums and institutes of St. Petersburg.

Summer School topics:

  • Classical Korean studies: history, language and literature;
  • Sociocultural aspects of Korean society development;
  • Korea and Russia in the system of international relations;
  • Korean collections in museums of Saint Petersburg.

Forms of training: lectures, seminars, workshops, trainings, excursions and students’ activities.

Terms and conditions:

  • Foreign participants supported by SPbU will be provided with:
  1. accommodation in the hotel near the University in Saint Petersburg for 5 days/4 nights (August 27 – 31, 2018);
  2. round-trip economy class tickets (arrival – August 27; departure – August 31, 2018);
  3. c) breakfast, lunch and dinner on August 28 – 30, 2018.
  • All foreign participants will be provided with visa assistance (letters of invitation for visa processing).
