PhD Programme

The PhD Programme offered at the Faculty of Journalism and Political Sciences, University of Warsaw is addressed to English-speaking students – graduates of the second-cycle studies (uniform master-level studies or equivalent). It is intended for active and creative people who wish to develop their research interests and broaden academic knowledge by conducting scientific research.

 

Candidate profile:

The study programme is addressed to graduates of second-cycle studies (full Masters programme or equivalent) – with no restrictions concerning the field. The candidates should be active and creative people who wish to pursue further studies and comprehensively develop their skills by broadening their academic knowledge and conducting research.

Aim:

The aim of the studies is for the graduates to be educated specialists with the academic degree of doctor of social science in the field of political science. The courses and research realised during the studies concern the multi-aspect analysis of social and political phenomena in Poland, Europe and the world.

The studies last 3 years (6 semesters). They are realised under a uniform programme as full daytime studies and as part-time (extramural) studies.

They are conducted in a two-way system. On the one hand, the students conduct their own research projects under the care of the supervisor or support supervisor, and on the other hand, they participate in obligatory classes. The learning cycle includes a group of general subjects, four specialisation modules and various forms of guided self-study. In total, the programme of studies comprises 405 hours of classes and 135 hours of introductory seminars and individual PhD seminars (tutelage). In addition, the students are required to actively participate in the organisational work of the University, the Faculty, the institutes, and the Section.

The programme of the research performed under the care of the supervisor or support supervisor covers learning paths of political studies.

The students who pass doctoral exams and submit and successfully defend their PhD dissertations will be granted the academic degree doktor nauk społecznych w zakresie nauk o polityce (Doctor of Social Science in the field of Political Science).
